I just got back from a business trip from Memphis.
It was an interesting experience and although I didn't want to go @ first, I'm
glad I did. The people are much nicer down south and everything just
seems simpler.
I woke up on Thursday, Sept. 27 @ 5AM. This was especially hard because I was still
recovering from a lingering cold and I still had NYQUIL in my system. I
need to thank my mom because she drove me to the train station @ 5:20 AM. She's always been a trooper and has
always helped me whenever I need it.
Moving on, I took the LIRR to the city and then took the
North East Corridor Line to Newark International
Airport. This NE
Corridor train ride and Newark brought
back some good/bad memories that I had forgotten. Last time I was at Newark
I guess I didn’t say or do everything I wanted to…Sometimes I wish I had done
something different… Anyway, Once I got to the airport I meet up with Ed (my
boss) and we took the plane to Detroit. Our flight wasn’t too bad but Ed kept waking
me up every 10 minutes when I was trying to sleep. We landed in Detroit
and then transferred to another flight to Memphis. After all the transfers and time zone changes
we touched down around 2PM. It was pretty excruciating flying for so
long.
We then rented a car and drove to the hotel. We ate @ Chic-Fil-A and then straight to the
warehouse/factory to do a cycle inventory count of our comics. We ate around 3pm
and go to the Diamond Warehouse around 4pm. We got to the warehouse and talked to the
manager, Shawn. We then walked around
the floor and rode forklifts to do our audit.
I was paired with a guy named Marcus. We had a heavy southern accent and it was
hard to understand him at times, but we got along pretty well. He told me about his work shift and how it
starts @ 5pm to 4AM. That’s intense… The warehouse was HUGE and has EVERY single
comic/action figure/poster in the WORLD… I have videos to prove it. If you ever saw Indiana Jones, raiders of the
lost arc…at the end of the movie they put the arc in storage. The warehouse looked like that scene.
We ended around 10 PM. We then went to go eat and check out the
city. We drove around for a while
because Ed got lost. Good thing for my
innate sense of direction or we would’ve been driving around all night.
We found the city but it was pretty tame. There was one street called Biele
street that was AWESOME. It had all these Jazz musicians and bars straight
down the block. Jazz musicians were
playing in the street and bars were blasting BB King/Elivs. Ed bought me a beer and we drank for a
bit. It was a little funny, I had a few “American
Pie”ish awkward moments but it was fun.
After we drank for a bit we headed back to the hotel. This was around 12Am. Our flight was @ 8:30 AM so we had to get up around 6:30. Another
painful morning. Ed had failed to tell
me that he arranged for a morning call @ 6:20. I was scared shitless when my phone went berserk.
We caught our flight and came back to Jersey.
One thing I forgot to mention is that I was the ONLY Asian
guy in the whole state. People kept
looking at me, not in a bad or evil way, but more in a curious nature. It was kind of weird. After we got back they made us come in to work for like 3
hours…. Go figure. Its been a long week,
but MY new computer just got in and I’m pretty happy. Im now rocking DUAL screens. If you have never tried it, I have to tell
you… its AWESOME.
Ok the end. Peace.
Enjoy the pictures.
The car we rented, NITRO? it was diesal.

The warehouse filled with comics, etc.

Boxes of comics....sometimes i get so sick of this crap =P
